FAQ

Questions homeowners ask first.

Does it turn on by itself?

Yes. A sensor beside the driveway watches for falling moisture below freezing, and a sensor in the slab reads the surface temperature. The system only runs when both agree that snow is coming or already there. Its controller can also hold the slab just below freezing when a storm is forecast, so it is ready when snow starts.

What does it cost to install?

Every driveway is different, so SunFlow prices yours after a site visit. Most SunFlow residential projects begin at approximately $80,000, depending on size, design, materials and complexity. Request a quote to get your number.

What does it cost to run?

SunFlow's guide puts it at about $2 to $5 per snow event for a standard two-car executive driveway. At your consultation, SunFlow estimates it for your size and local utility rates.

Why hydronic and not electric?

Electric cable is often cheaper to install but can cost significantly more to run on Ontario's power grid. Hydronic needs more equipment up front, and in return costs less to run and heats a large driveway more evenly. See the full comparison.

Can you heat my existing driveway?

Often, yes. Sound asphalt or concrete can be saw-cut and the tubing set into the grooves. Pavers can be lifted and reset over new tubing and insulation. If the driveway is already cracking or heaving, SunFlow recommends replacing it.

Will it change how my driveway looks?

No. The system sits beneath the surface. You choose the finish, from concrete to pavers.

Will it damage the surface?

No. Without repeated salt and with fewer freeze-thaw cycles, many driveway materials are better protected.

Which surfaces work?

Concrete, asphalt and pavers. SunFlow lists eight finishes as compatible, from brushed concrete to slab-style pavers, and confirms the right product for each property.

How long does it last?

SunFlow designs it as a permanent part of the home, built to perform for decades when properly maintained.

When should I plan it?

While the home is being designed, or at least 3 months before you pave.

What warranty comes with it?

Ask SunFlow about the warranty for your system when you request a quote.

Where do you work?

SunFlow is based in Barrie and serves homeowners across Ontario.
